When Alessandro and Sonia Rosatelli opened their doors on Holland Street East back in 2005, they couldn’t have imagined the impact their clinic would have. Two decades later, their commitment to patient-centered care continues to transform lives.
Alessandro and Sonia Rosatelli opened Body in Balance Physiotherapy in 2005 at 52 Holland St. East with just two practitioners and traditional physiotherapy services.
From Two Practitioners to a Busy Healthcare Hub
The growth wasn’t accidental. The Rosatellis built something genuinely different, a place where healthcare professionals actually collaborate instead of working in silos. Each new service emerged from listening to what patients needed and couldn’t get elsewhere in Bradford.
“We’ve always let our patients’ needs guide our growth,” Sonia explains. “When we saw gaps in available care, we worked to fill them.”
That approach transformed a basic physio clinic into a facility offering concussion management, breathwork, acupuncture, functional weight loss consulting, and treatments most Bradford residents previously had to travel to access.
Building Expertise While Building the Clinic
While growing the clinic, Alessandro completed his PhD in Anatomy at the University of Toronto, research that elevated the clinic’s credibility and assisted in driving physician referrals. Both achieved instructor status with the FIT Institute, now teaching Fascial Abrasion Technique and Performance Taping to other practitioners across the province. Sonia joined McMaster’s faculty, instructing at their Neurofunctional Acupuncture Program.
They’ve taken countless courses over twenty years, constantly refining skills and expanding treatment capabilities.
Triumph Through Tragedy
Behind every achievement stand two quiet heroes. Their parents whose courage and perseverance built the foundation upon which Body in Balance stands today.
Their father, who immigrated to Canada and worked tirelessly to give his family opportunity, passed away in August 2010 after a short battle with cancer. His work ethic and humility remain the clinics compass. Their mother has been a constant source of strength, steadfast, encouraging and deeply involved in the family’s journey. Her belief in education, kindness, and perseverance continues to shape the way the clinic cares for its patients and community.
“We live every day trying to make them both proud,” Alessandro reflects. “Our mother’s support and our father’s sacrifices are woven into everything we’ve built.”
After the passing of their father, everything seemed to stop. The clinic, growth plans, and daily routines all became secondary to family. But that profound loss deepened their understanding of what patients experience when serious illness strikes.
“I don’t think a day goes by that any of us aren’t grateful and acknowledge the role he played in our upbringing and successes,” Sonia adds.
They turned grief into action. In 2012, they donated $40,000 to the Bradford West Gwillimbury Community Centre, honouring their parents and cementing their commitment to the community that welcomed their family decades earlier. That donation represented their parent’s sacrifice and their determination to give back.
Alessandro’s PhD graduation happened just before their father got sick; a bittersweet blessing that allowed him to celebrate his son’s achievement.
Rising to Pandemic Challenges
March 2020 could have ended everything they’d built. Body in Balance closed like clinics everywhere, doors locked until late June. For healers who live to help people, the forced shutdown was agonizing.
“Not being able to help clients in the way we were accustomed really took a toll on us,” Sonia admits. “We felt helpless at times.”
But they showed up anyway. Every single day, staff came to the empty clinic and called patients. They provided updates as regulations changed hourly. They launched virtual care in May 2020, learning to guide patients through treatments over video calls.”When everything around us stopped, we kept showing up because our community needed care, hope and connection more than ever,” Alessandro says simply.
When they finally reopened, patients returned. That loyalty validated everything they’d built over fifteen years.
Making Room for Growth
The 2012 expansion added 1,500 square feet and changed everything. Suddenly, different specialists worked side-by-side. A physiotherapist could consult with the osteopath between patients. Massage therapists discussed complex cases with acupuncturists. The physical space enabled the integrated care they’d always envisioned.
Bradford’s Healthcare Partner
Body in Balance has woven into Bradford’s fabric. They sponsor local hockey and baseball teams year after year. They’ve backed Carrot Fest as title sponsors and regular participants. They showed up for SoccerFest 2006, the Studio Tour, and the Terry Fox Run where they raised more money than any other Bradford participant.
The Bradford Board of Trade recognized their exceptional service with awards in 2010 and 2011. The Nottawasaga Futures BBT added their Customer Service Award in 2009/10.
Twenty Years of Impact
With thousands of patients treated and dozens of practitioners trained, one community has transformed. The clinic that started with two determined siblings now stands as Bradford’s premier integrative healthcare facility. Patients who once travelled to Toronto or Barrie for specialized treatments now find everything they need at 52 Holland St. East.
“We’re just grateful the town has been so accepting of us as a business,” Sonia says. “They’ve allowed us to thrive. We’re so blessed.”
